Derek W. Dobson

Derek is a tireless advocate for shared-risk, multi-employer defined benefit (DB) pension plans and is dedicated to enhancing pension benefit security for Canadians.

He is the primary architect of a new pension design, called DBplus that is making it possible to provide more Canadians with access to a lifetime pension (including those working at not-for- profits). Derek recently met with not-for-profit leaders to discuss how best to deliver affordable pensions.

Derek has an undergraduate degree in mathematics from the University of Waterloo and is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries. He is Co-Chair of the Canadian Public Pension Leadership Council, a member of the Association of Canadian Pension Management Board of Directors, and is currently a finalist for the 2018 Benefits Canada Industry Leadership award.

He is also one of the founding instructors for the Master of Trust Management Standards program run by the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans.
