Cheryl Whitten

CPA, CA, CIA

Cheryl Whitten, CPA, CA, CIA is the Associate Director, Financial and Administrative Services at Memorial University. Previously at Memorial, she was Project Lead for a multi-year Human Resource Management System Improvement project, as well as, a Banner Faculty Load and Compensation System Implementation.  

Prior to joining Memorial University on December 1, 2015 Cheryl was responsible for the Operational Advisory practice for the Grant Thornton LLP, Newfoundland and Labrador business unit. In this role, she specialized in internal audit services, forensic audit investigations, strategic planning, risk management, operational reviews, certification readiness assistance and other areas. She has worked with the RNC and RCMP in several fraud cases and provided expert witness testimony in fraud related trials.  

Cheryl has over 20 years’ experience in public practice and previous experience as an Internal Auditor for a local public company. She is the Chair of CPA Newfoundland and Labrador’s Discipline Panel, and Chair of CPA Newfoundland and Labrador’s Education Foundation. Cheryl was a Past President of the Institute of Internal Auditors – Newfoundland Chapter and was an assistant team leader for the UFE marking centre for 15 years.
