Cary List

As president & CEO, Cary leads the establishment of the Financial Planning Standards Council as the premier standards-setter for financial planning in Canada, and of CFP certification as the standard for financial planners.

Cary has spent the past two decades working to elevate standards for the profession, and to achieve recognition of financial planning as a distinct profession for the benefit of all Canadians.

Cary is a valued member of the global financial planning community, and was instrumental in the development of the international competency profile now used for over 175,000 CFP professionals around the world. He is Canada’s delegate to the Financial Planning Standards Board (FPSB), the international standards body for CFP certification, and the 2018 chairperson of the international FPSB Council, the advisory and ratification body to the FPSB board of directors. He continues to work closely with FPSB and FPSB’s other international affiliate organizations to advance international excellence in financial planning.

Cary is also a recognized leader in the credentialing community around the world. He has served as president of the board of the U.S.-based Institute for Credentialing Excellence

Under Cary’s leadership and in collaboration with partner organizations across Canada, FPSC is steadily advancing the vision for a single set of national standards for financial planning.
