Barbara Stymiest

HBA, FCPA, FCA

Barbara is a corporate director and a former member of the Group Executive of Royal Bank of Canada, responsible for the overall performance of the bank. She is a former chief executive officer of TMX Group Inc., executive vice-president and chief financial officer at BMO Capital Markets and partner of Ernst & Young LLP. She currently serves on the boards of Blackberry Limited, George Weston Limited and Sun Life Financial Inc.

Barbara also serves as the chair of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research and is a trustee of the University Health Network. She is also the vice-chair of AGE-WELL, a new Network Centre of Excellence to help older Canadians. She chairs both the Advisory Board of the Ivey Institute for Leadership and the CDIC Advisory Panel on Resolution and is a member of the Capital Markets Advisory Board at the Rotman School of Management. She has also been involved with numerous other non-profit organizations including the United Way and the Royal Ontario Museum.

She obtained her HBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business, Western University. She is a Fellow Chartered Professional Accountant (FCPA) and was elected by the Council of CPA Ontario in 2011 as a recipient of their award of Outstanding Merit. She has also received honorary degrees from Western University, University of New Brunswick, University of Guelph and the Canadian University of Dubai.
