Axel Thesberg

Axel is chair of the Finance and Audit Committee at Kingston General Hospital and was chair of the Audit Committee for the Toronto 2015 Pan American and Parapan American Games. He is also senior advisor to CPA Canada, providing advice on various projects related to enhancing the value of audit and financial reporting. He was project coordinator for the recently completed Enhancing Audit Quality joint initiative between CPA Canada, the Canadian Public Accountability Board (CPAB) and the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD), and is currently working on a project developing guidance to assist audit committees in overseeing key performance indicators (KPIs).

Axel retired as a partner of KPMG Canada in 2010. Prior to retiring, he was Canadian managing partner, Professional Standards and Risk Management, and a member of KPMG Canada’s Management Committee. In this capacity, he was responsible for accounting and auditing professional standards and quality and risk management for KPMG Canada’s Auditing, Tax and Advisory practices.

For several years, Axel facilitated the audit committee module for the ICD's Director Education Program and KPMG Canada’s semi-annual Audit Committee Roundtables.
