Alexandre Guertin, CPA, CA, MBA

Alex is senior vice-president and chief risk officer for Great-West. His executive career path at Canada Life has included such appointments as vice-president, Strategic Planning (2002), vice-president and CFO, Canada Life Reinsurance and London Reinsurance Corporation (2004), CFO, European Operations (2006) and senior vice-president (2007).

Alex leads Great-West’s conversion to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). He is a member of the Insurance Task Force advising the Accounting Standards Board on insurance industry-related IFRS conversion questions. He was a member of the CFO Task Force commissioned by the CICA that issued a brochure providing practical guidance to CFOs on preparing for the conversion to IFRS. Alex is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Accountant and has a Bachelor of Commerce from École des Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC) and an MBA from Harvard Business School. In 1991, he received the Gold Medal from the Ordre des comptables agréés du Québec for placing first on the Uniform Final Examination. Alex is also a board member of Le Réseau HEC of the University of Montréal.
