The new lease standard will likely impact most Canadian companies who lease assets under operating leases. In a significant shift from prior accounting, almost all obligations under operating leases (with very few exceptions) will be recognized on the balance sheet as financial liabilities, with a corresponding "right to use" asset being recognized.
