The 2022 CPA Competency Map

The 2022 CPA Competency Map describes in detail the two types of competencies — technical and enabling — that employers in public practice, industry, and government require of accounting professionals.

The 2022 CPA Competency Map, released in May 2022, is the latest iteration of the Competency Map. The main changes to the 2022 Competency Map include:

  • separation of the enabling and technical competencies from supplemental material
  • updates to the knowledge list and examples, specifically around assurance standards
  • streamlining implementation dates for incorporation into the CPA certification program

There are no significant changes to the competencies in the 2022 Competency Map. However, some updates to knowledge lists and examples have been made, specifically around assurance standards.

The 2021 Outreach Package provides detailed information on the changes included in the 2022 Competency Map.
