March 30, 2020 To ensure fairness to students/candidates impacted by the cancellation of the May 2020 Common Final Examination (CFE) due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the availability of the cases for the Capstone 1 modules and those tested on Day 1 of the CFEs for 2020 and 2021 that were previously announced have changed. Normally, only two versions of a Capstone 1 case are used for Day 1 of the CFE and they are offered one year apart. However, the profession is making an exception with the use of the Distinct Hotels Corporation case and will make it available on the September 2020, May 2021, and the September 2021 CFEs. This will ensure that the case is available for candidates who completed the January 2020 Capstone 1 module and are unable to write the CFE in September 2020 are unsuccessful on the Day 1 Distinct Hotel Corporation case on the September 2020 CFE and want to rewrite the same case on the September 2021 CFE. Another exception is the repeat use of the Distinct Hotels Corporation case for the Capstone 1 module. Although the Distinct Hotels Corporation case was introduced in the January 2020 Capstone 1 module, it will also be introduced in the May 2020 Capstone 1 module, to align with the availability of version 1 of the case on the September 2020 CFE. Below are the names of the cases that will be used in the upcoming Capstone 1 modules and available on Day 1 of the upcoming CFEs: For the September 2020 CFE, candidates can choose from the following Capstone 1 module cases: Distinct Hotels Corporation case (version 1) – introduced in the January 2020 Capstone 1 module Marmani Inc. case (version 2) – introduced in the May 2019 Capstone 1 module. Please note: the Marmani Inc. case (version 3) will no longer be offered as previously stated. For the May 2021 CFE, candidates can choose from the following Capstone 1 cases: Waste Disposal Incorporated case (version 1) – introduced in the January 2021 Capstone 1 module Distinct Hotels Corporation case (version 2) – introduced in the January 2020 and the May 2020 Capstone 1 modules. For the September 2021 CFE, candidates can choose from the following Capstone 1 cases: Creative Toys Incorporated case (version 1) – introduced in the May 2021 Capstone 1 module Distinct Hotels Corporation case (version 3) – introduced in the January 2020 and the May 2020 Capstone 1 modules. We are committed to keeping you informed of upcoming changes and will provide additional information once the details are available. March 17, 2020 Clarification: Weekly activities submissions If you are enrolled in a current CPA PEP module or CPA preparatory course, you are expected to continue to submit all course components by the existing deadlines as identified in Brightspace (D2L). CPA PEP students/candidates are reminded that they are required to meet the 75% threshold to be eligible to write the module-end exam. Additional information about the cancellation of the examinations and next steps are provided in the FAQ document. March 16, 2020 Cancellation of CPA Examinations and the Capstone 2 Module Faced with the growing concerns and uncertainties over COVID-19 and our commitment to provide a safe environment for our candidates, staff, and volunteers, the CPA profession has cancelled all April CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP) and CPA preparatory course examinations and the May 2020 Common Final Examination (CFE). In addition, the Capstone 2 module scheduled to start on April 4, 2020 is cancelled. As well, all module in-person workshops for the Spring semester will now be delivered through an alternative format. Once those details have been determined for the regions, the provincial/regional CPA bodies will contact all students directly to advise them of the new format. The provincial/regional CPA bodies are contacting all affected students by email to advise them of this information and to let them know they will be automatically enrolled in the next exam or Capstone 2 offering. Additional accommodations are being made to enable CPA PEP and CPA preparatory course students to proceed to the next semester without having completed the pre-requisite course/module requirements, and to accommodate students who may have a program completion timeline expiring during this period. The profession is dedicated to supporting students in their pursuit towards the CPA designation with the least amount of disruption as reasonably possible. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding during this challenging time. We are committed to keeping you informed of upcoming changes and will provide additional information once the details are available. Please refer to the FAQ Document to address some questions you may have about the cancellations.
