Barbara Anderson


Barbara brought over 20 years of expertise in financial management, strategy setting and implementation, business development and executive leadership to her position as chief financial officer at the TORONTO 2015 Pan/Parapan Am Games. From major multinationals to early-stage entrepreneurial businesses, her career has included senior leadership roles in a range of organizations, many of which were undergoing significant change or moving to the next level of effectiveness.

At TORONTO 2015, she was responsible for finance, information technology, procurement, project management, risk management and office services and delivered the largest and most successful Games in history. In addition to the Games success, a surplus on both the operating and capital budgets was achieved.

Barbara spent her career in the service sector, including 10 years in food service and then in the media, third party logistics and document management sectors. Just prior to TORONTO 2015, Barbara moved to the not-for-profit/charity sector with MaRS Discovery District and MaRS Innovation. Driving strategy, developing market position and leading numerous profit-enhancing initiatives, she has led companies though significant change to higher performance.

Barbara was awarded the 2015 Rotman Women in Management Top 10 Award and was nominated for the 2015 Rotman Excellence Award for Financial Management and Good Governance.

An MBA graduate of the Rotman School of Business, University of Toronto, she is also a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, Ontario) and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of British Columbia.

In her spare time, Barbara volunteers on the Board of Directors for UBC Alumni and sits on its Finance and Audit Committee, and is a mentor for Bishop's University's mentorship program.
