Douglas Tkach


A Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) graduate of the University of Manitoba in 1990, Doug earned his Chartered Accountant designation in 1993 with Scarrow & Donald, Chartered Accountants. He left public accounting to become chief financial officer of the Burrows Lumber group of companies, with responsibility for operations, accounting and finance. He joined Great-West Life in 2001 and progressed in his career through a number of roles in financial reporting.

Doug was appointed chief internal auditor in 2012, a role he held until 2017, when he was assigned to lead special projects, starting with the Canada Transformation. Doug led the development, coordination and implementation of an integrated brand, product, distribution, and legal entity strategy for the new Canada Life in 2018 – 2019, followed by the sale of GLC Asset Management in 2020. Doug currently leads the Corporate Operations team and is executive sponsor for the Future of Work initiative.

Doug earned his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2005 and became a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants in 2011. He served as a director of CPA Canada throughout the integration of the Canadian accounting profession from 2012 – 2016 and was a director of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants from 2011 – 2017.

Doug is on the United Way Winnipeg major donor cabinet and represents the Canada Life Winnipeg campaign. He joined the Manitoba Museum board of governors in 2019 and currently serves as chair of the Finance and Investment Committees. A past-president of the Manitoba Institute of Chartered Accountants, Doug was awarded the Fellow, Chartered Professional Accountants designation in 2015 and the CPA Manitoba Meritorious Service Award in 2017.
